Abstract

749,363. Change-speed gearing. LAMUDE, L. E., and CAMPBELL, D. W. April 5, 1954 [Jan. 3, 1953], No. 215/53. Class 80(2) Epicyclic change-speed gearing for motor vehicles has a single control lever 1 which is moved in its own plane to rotate a tube 2 having an arm 4 linked to a preselector lever 5, and which is tilted so as to move a rod 13 operating a valve 10 controlling supply of vacuum or compressed air to a servomotor 9 connected to a gear executive lever 7, which latter is also connected to the valve 10 through a cable 15 so as to give a follow-up action. The servomotor 9 disengages the gear, while engagement, under spring action, is retarded by an adjustable dashpot 12. Manual operation may be effected by a pedal 14 connected to the lever 7.
