807,447. Variable-speed gearing. STEINER, C. E. April 19, 1955 [April 20, 1954], No. 11209/55. Divided out of 807,446. Class 80 (2). In variable-speed gearing in which expanding cone pulleys 13 ... 16 are drivingly connected by a belt 18 which passes over friction-rings 17 on the pulleys the movable flange 14 of at least one of the pulleys is axially adjusted to vary the gear ratio by a manual lever of the first order. As shown, the lever is pivoted at 20, Fig. 1, is manually engaged at 19 and has a collar 21 engaging a groove 22 in the boss of the flange 14. The movable flange 16 of the other pulley is under the action of a spring 24. In a modification, both flanges 14, 16, Fig. 2, are moved simultaneously by rotation of a hand wheel 30 on a rod 29 to which is screwed a nut 31. The nut 31 has projections 32 engaging slots 33 in levers 34, 35 pivoted at 36, 37. Each lever 34, 35 may be in two parts which may be relatively angularly adjustable about its fulcrum by positive or spring means.
