666,874. Linkwork for variable speed gearing. TATRA, NARODNI PODNIK, and ELIAS, F. Oct. 14, 1948 [Oct. 14, 1947], No. 26814/48. Classes 80 (ii) and (iii). Depression or raising, or rotational movement of a motor vehicle steering column gear change lever 1 imparts through a tube 19 and respective linkworks comprising arms 2, 12, a lever 13, a link 14 and a pin 6 or arms 2, 3, a lever 4, a link 5 and the pin 6 rotational or axial movement to a gear shift rod 7 disposed in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle to a gear box at the rear thereof. The former movement of the lever 1 causes an arm 8 of the rod 7 to select one of three further shift rods 9, 18 &c. in the gear box, each carrying a fork 10, 15 &c. engaging synchromesh couplings 11, 16 &c., and rotational movement of the lever 1 effects axial movement of the selected coupling to engage the appropriate gear. The arrangement may be used in combination with a rear-engined vehicle.
