Abstract
300,014. Rowlands, P. O. Nov. 10, 1927. Controlling variable-speed gearing.-A control lever k is moved in the plane of Fig. 2 to select striker members h, h<1> of a change-speed gear, and is moved about its pivot shaft j in the plane of Fig. 1 to operate the selected striker. The selective movement is effected by turning a knob handle r, which is connected by a spindle l to a pinion n which rolls along a fixed rack o. This rolling causes the whole lever k with its pivot shaft j to move in the plane of Fig. 2 so that the heel k<1> of the lever crosses between the strikers h, h'. The lever k is guided in a gate f. The rack o is fixed against longitudinal movement but it is supported on an arm p so that it can move with lever k in the plane of Fig. 1 for the operative stroke. A spring lock s stops the knob r in gear positions.
