Abstract
993,271. Change speed and reverse gearing. F. M. M. B. SALOMON. May 18, 1962 [May 19, 1961], No. 19308/62. Heading F2D. In a change-speed friction gear, axial movement of the input shaft selectively engages one of the rollers, carried thereon, with a friction plate on the output shaft. An input shaft 1 driven by a reversible electric motor is axially movable to engage either of two conical rollers 5, 6, rigid therewith, with corresponding conical surfaces 7, 8 of a plate 9 rigid with the output shaft 10 driving a washing machine. The shaft 1 is movable to high, low and neutral positions by a lever 35 connected to a rod 23 axially shiftable through springs 28, 29 from a collar 22 having a pin 21 engaged in a snail cam 19 manually rotatable by a shaft 15. The shaft 15 may be actuated automatically by mechanical or electrical means and the groove 20 of the cam 19 may be shaped to act as a detent for the shift mechanism. In a modification, the collar 22 and springs are mounted directly on the input shaft 1 and actuated through linkwork. In another embodiment a third roller is mounted to be axially slidable on the input shaft under the action of a second cam means to provide an additional speed.
