Abstract
821,300. Reverse control. JAEGER MACHINE CO. Oct. 14, 1957 [July 29, 1957], No. 31977/57. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group II] In mechanism in which an engine drives a reversing gear-box through a clutch, the clutch and reversing gear are both actuated by a single control lever. The lever 30, Fig. 6, is angularly rotatable with a shaft 32 and is pivoted thereon by screws 33, so as to be laterally movable. In its neutral position it rests in a recess 45A, Fig. 3, in a slotted gate member 4], from which position it may be moved forward to a slot 46, Fig. 2, in order to tilt a slotted lever 50 anticlockwise and, through a link 54, set the gear-box 14 for forward drive. Alternatively the lever 30 may be moved to a slot 47, Fig. 3, so as to tilt the lever 50 in the opposite direction and thereby set the gear-box for reverse drive. The control lever 30 is also linked, through rod 36, Fig. 6, with the engine clutch mechanism 13 so that when it is pulled back, in its neutral position, it holds the clutch disengaged but, when moved forward into either of slots 46, 47, Figs. 2, 3, it allows the clutch to engage and take up the drive. The clutchactuating lever 19, Fig. 6, is also connected through a link 22 to the engine throttle, so that the engine idles when the clutch is disengaged and, through a link 25, to a cam lever 28 which applies a brake 26 to the output shaft when power is not being transmitted.
