Abstract
899,848. Reverse gear controls. MORSE, J. F. Jan. 20, 1961, No. 2447/61. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXVII] In a single control device for the throttle and clutch of a boat engine wherein the control lever 17 is connected directly through a push-pull cable 56 to the throttle lever 62 and during the first portion of its movement from neutral rotates a disc 27 connected by a cable 47 to the clutch lever 54, the casing 57 of the throttle cable 56 is moved in the same direction as the cable 56 during rotation of the disc 27 to prevent movement of the throttle during engagement of the clutch. The cable 56 is connected through a rod 33 to a lever 26 on the shaft of control lever 17 and the end 59 of casing 57 is connected to a slide 41 operated through a rod 39 by a lever 35 attached to disc 27. During the first 45 degrees of movement of lever 17 from its neutral position, the disc 27 is rotated by gear teeth on a disc 24 to engage the clutch for forward or reverse drive. During this movement the lever 26 moves the cable 56 slightly to the right but the lever 35 also moves the slide 41 carrying the end 58 of casing 57 to the right an equal amount so that there is no movement of the throttle lever 62. On further movement of lever 17, the clutch operating member 27 is held stationary by the disc 24 engaging an arcuate portion 27<SP>1</SP> thereof and the lever 26 operates the throttle lever 62 in the normal manner, the slide 41 remaining stationary.
