Abstract
1354661 Change-speed gear G GAI 12 Oct 1972 [12 Oct 1971] 47101/72 Heading F2D Selection of forward, neutral or reverse speed of a transmission and actuation of the throttle of an engine are controlled by a single lever 1 keyed to a shaft 3 on which are mounted rockers 10, 12 connected to the gear and throttle linkages, respectively, the arrangement being such that initial movement of the control lever from the neutral position pivots only the gear rocker 10 whereas further movement of the lever pivots only the throttle rocker 12. The rocker 12 is freely pivotable on an extension 11 of the rocker 10, which is freely pivotable on the shaft 3, and is connected by a link 25 to a crank 21 pivoted at 22 to the casing 23. The crank 21 is connected by a link 20 to a crank 13 keyed to the shaft 3, the arrangement being such that when the lever 1 rotates the crank 13 to the position 13<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, the rocker 12 is only slightly displaced to the position 12<SP>1</SP>, whereas further rotation of the crank 13<SP>1</SP> to the position 1311 displaces the rocker 12 to the position 1211. The rocker 10 is connected to the shaft 3 by means of a cam mechanism which holds the rocker in the position 10<SP>1</SP> as the crank 13 is moved between the positions 13<SP>1</SP>, 1311. A cam 80 is keyed to the shaft 3 and is located in a bore within a hub 33 formed on the rocker 10, the hub being rotatably mounted in an aperture 34 formed with recesses 35-37 in the casing 23. Cylindrical members 45 are located in slots 38-41 in the hub 33 and engage arcuate portions of the cam 80. On rotating the shaft 3 from the neutral position in the direction 46, Fig. 3, the cam 80 and rocker 10 rotate together until the members 45 are pressed into the recesses 35, 36 to halt the rocker 10, whereafter only the cam 80 and the rocker 12 rotate. A push-button 49 is provided whereby the rocker 10 may be locked in the neutral position whilst the rocker 12 is turned to accelerate the engine for warm-up.
