Abstract

809,606. Twist tubes; crimping yarns. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., E. March 4, 1957 [March 17, 1956], No. 8400/56. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A crimped yarn wherein the effect of torque, induced by setting false twist, is obviated, is produced by passing the yarn through the twist tube of a false twisting mechanism and rotating the tube alternately in one direction and then the other. As shown, a twist tube 1, which is rotatably mounted at the end of one arm 2 of a bell crank lever, is located between a pair of endless driving belts 3, 4 which run in the same direction. The other arm 5 of the lever is slotted at 6 to accommodate a pin 7 projecting from a rod 8, which is reciprocated by a cam or solenoid mechanism to bring the tube 1 into contact with one or other of the belts 3, 4 so that the tube rotates firstly in one direction and then in the other. A brake pad may be disposed between the belts momentarily to contact the twist tube when it is out of contact with the belts so as to arrest it. The cam or solenoid mechanism can be so adjusted that contact of the tube with the belts takes place for equal lengths of time so that the mean residual torque in the whole yarn is zero.
