Abstract

908,514. Finishing yarns. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., ERNEST. Aug. 10, 1961 [Aug. 12, 1960], No. 28003/60 Class 120 (3). Cellulose triacetate yarn is crimped by passing it through forwarding rollers rotating at a constant peripheral speed, heating and then cooling it, passing it through a false-twisting device and then between delivery rollers the peripheral speed of which is 2-6% greater than that of the forwarding rollers and finally collecting the yarn on a rotating package at a speed 5-10% less than that of the delivery rollers. The wound yarn may be subjected to the action of steam at 1-2 atmospheres to stabilize the crimp ; alternatively, the yarn may be subjected to the action of water or water vapour, e.g. at 90‹ C., under conditions of zero or minimum tension for 1-10 minutes, stretched to 80-90% of its original uncrimped length, and subsequently dried. Yarns of opposite remanent torque may be doubled, with or without both yarns having been treated with steam.
