Abstract
Bi-component acrylic fibres, in the form of bulk staple, continuous filaments, (carded) sliver, tow or roving under minimum tension and having therein unrelieved latent crimp stresses, are subjected to a heat-setting treatment e.g. by means of steam or hot dry gas and at a temperature within the range of 200 DEG F. to a temperature approximately ten degrees below the sticking point of the fibres, prior to spinning the fibres into yarn. The or each of two separate successive heat-setting treatments may be preceded and succeeded by subjection of the fibres to a vacuum. The yarn, prior (e.g. during skein or package dyeing with a hot liquid) or subsequent to knitting into a fabric or garment, is subjected to a wet-heat treatment, dried as by tumble-drying (and may thereafter be steamed) in order to develop the full crimp and resultant bulk therein.
