Abstract

Yarn composed of synthetic fibre is highly twisted in one direction, heated to set the twist, twisted in the reverse direction beyond the point of zero twist, the back twisted yarn being passed in a stretched condition through a size, e.g. a polyvinyl alcohol solution, and dried and a fabric is woven incorporating the yarn in at least the weft, the fabric being first partially desized at a temperature below 70 DEG C. and then washed at a temperature above that of the partial desizing but below the setting temperature of the fibre, e.g. from 80 DEG to 100 DEG C., and the desized fabric is stretched to its final width and heat-set in this condition. The latter heat setting may be effected at a temperature of 100 DEG C. to 200 DEG C. at a dry heat or with steam, e.g. by winding the fabric upon a perforated cylinder and treating in an autoclave, or by both dry heat and steam treatments. The fabric may be subjected to a further heat treatment, e.g. with steam, to promote shrinkage. The initial twist of the yarn may be in either direction and the woven fabric may be composed of yarns having both directions of twist. The washing liquid may contain a detergent. The yarns may be of nylon or a polyester.ALSO:Yarn composed of synthetic fibre is highly twisted in one direction, heated to set the twist, twisted in the reverse direction beyond the point of zero twist, the back twisted yarn being passed in a stretched condition through a size, e.g. a polyvinyl alcohol solution, and dried and a fabric is woven incorporating the yarn in at least the weft, the fabric being first partially desized at a temperature below 70 DEG C. and then washed at a temperature above that of the partial desizing, but below the setting temperature of the fibre, e.g. from 80 DEG to 100 DEG C., and the desized fabric is stretched to its final width and heat-set in this condition.
