Abstract

Yarn consists of a blend of viscose rayon staple fibres which are crimped or possess latent crimp and polyacrylonitrile staple fibres capable of shrinking when heated. Single or doubled yarn is converted to "voluminous" condition by heat treatment e.g. in or with steam or hot water, which shrinks the polyacrylonitrile fibres and may also develop the latent crimp in the viscose fibres. The polyacrylonitrile fibres may be formed from continuous filaments (and rendered shrinkable) by a stretch-breaking process. Specification 570,159 and U.S.A. Specification 2,517,694 are referred to.
