Abstract

A knitted fabric consists of yarns comprising a number of thermoplastic component filaments twisted together, each component filament having been twisted, set and further twisted so as to have a resultant S or Z twist, all of the component filaments of a yarn having a resultant twist of the same sense. The courses of the knitted fabric are knitted in an alternating sequence of yarns of opposite resultant twist. There may be four filaments constituting each yarn and each filament may be twisted five turns per inch in one direction whereafter the filament is subjected to heat treatment to set it and is then twisted twenty turns per inch in the opposite direction. After heat treatment the filament may be twisted either in the same direction or in the opposite direction to the twist imposed before heat treatment.
