Abstract

A bundle of artificial fibres comprising at least two sets of filaments made in different ways, and which may have different composition, may be drafted, cut and twisted, or false twisted, and then steam-heated to fix the twist, thereby producing texturised or elastic spun yarn. The filaments may differ physically, e.g. in lustre or cross-section, or in shrinkability, so that a bundle which has been subjected to shrinking treatment may have one set of filaments protruding in loops from the bundle. One set of filaments may have a Y-shaped cross-section. The filaments may be of cellulose derivatives, polyvinyl alcohol polyacrylonitrile, acrylonitrile copolymers, polyvinyl, chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyurethane, polyesters, polyamides, or polyolefins. A filament may be formed of different polymers extruded in contact.
