Abstract

An elastic composite yarn comprises a first synthetic multifilament yarn, the filaments of which have a denier greater than 6 and which has been crimped by twisting, heat setting, and untwisting the yarn-e.g. by false-twisting the yarn-, plied with a further synthetic multifilament yarn which has been similarly crimped. Polyamide, polyester, or polypropylene yarns may be used. In examples the first yarn is plied either with one or two yarns having filaments of a denier of between 2 and 3.5, or with a yarn having filaments greater than 6. The thick-filament yarns and also possibly the thin-filament yarns may be covered-e.g. by wrapping or core-spinning-with staple fibres of wool, cotton, regenerated cellulose, or polyacrylonitrile. Ring-twisters-for example as in Specification 1,032,896-or uptwisters with or without hollow spindles can be used for the plying and covering steps.
