Abstract

1,168,759. Hollow polyester filaments. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 23 Sept., 1968 [23 Sept., 1967], No. 45083/68. Heading B5B. A polyester fibre, such fibre having a separate filament count of 3 to 15 denier, has a cavity volume of 10 to 30% and presents a two-dimensional crimping with 75 to 110 crimps per 10 cm. Preferably, the polyester is polyethylene terephthalate, the fibre has a cavity volume of 20 to 30%, and presents a two-dimensional crimping with 90 to 100 crimps per 10 cms. The fibres are made in known manner by spinning the polyester using a hollow filament spinneret, stretching, crimping by compression, heat-setting and cutting to staple length. In the example, polyethylene terephthalate is so spun to form a tow of filaments, having a separate filament count of 5 denier. Five tows are plied and stretched in steam at 150‹ C. The tow is then led through hot water to remove the spinning preparation, and a dressing applied. Several tows so pretreated are assembled and supplied to a compression crimping device, whereafter they are set at about 140‹ C. and cut to a length of 50 mm.
