Abstract

Mixtures of filaments or fibres are produced by feeding viscose into a spinning bath through at least two spinnerets each having different numbers of apertures, the rate of feed to the spinnerets being the same, the filaments or groups of filaments of heavier denier being spun from at least one spinneret the total aperture cross-sectional area and the diameter of each aperture of which are greater, respectively, than those from which the other denier(s) are spun. All the filaments are drawn off at the same rate, whereby those of heavier denier are subjected to a greater stretch than the others, so that the crimping properties of the filaments of different deniers are substantially equalized or brought nearer to each other. The spun filaments or bundles thereof are combined to form a rope which is then treated and dried, or stretched and cut into staple lengths, which are then finished.
