Abstract

A high stretch/bulked yarn is produced by associating in a single bundle two or more synthetic, thermoplastic e.g. polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinylidene chloride, polypropylene, continuous monofilament or multifilament yarns already having a twist in the same direction of 300-800 turns per metre, twisting the bundle by more than 800 turns per metre e.g. 2,800 turns or sufficient to produce a double layer of turns in at least part of the bundle, in the same direction as that in which p the component yarns are already twisted, heat-setting the twist in the bundle and untwisting it to separate the yarns. A separated S-twisted yarn may be combined with a separated Z-twisted yarn to form an undistorted bulky yarn. The initial yarns may be similar or different as regards amount of twist, denier, and/or chemical or physical structure.
