823,866. Yarns and threads. ROTH CO. Inc., C. H. Oct. 22, 1956 [Oct. 31, 1955(2)], No. 32034/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 120(3) [Also in Group VIII] Composite yarn is made by wrapping at least one cotton yarn (12-80 count) which has been twisted in one direction e.g. 5-20 turns per inch S or Z about at least one stretch, thermoplastic yarn e.g. 50-300 denier nylon, to which a latent torque has been imparted in the opposite direction. while imparting a lesser number of turns per inch e.g. 2¢, to the composite yarn than was originally imparted to the cotton yarn. The stretch yarn(s) may be such as produced by twisting, heat-setting and untwisting multifilamentary yarn(s) with a final ("producer") twist of 0-4 turns per inch; yarns of similar or opposite twist and/or torque and equal denier may be plied to form the core for the composite yarn. In a process for loosely wrapping, the cotton yarn component is maintained under the lesser tension e.g. by a 5 grms. margin. Oil e.g. 3¢% by weight, may be applied as a lubricant and/or to reduce electrostatic charge during subsequent knitting into stretchable fabric which is stated to have the appearance and handle of cotton goods (see Group VIII). The cotton and/or thermoplastic yarn(s) may be dyed separately or in combination.
