Abstract

An elastic and bulky yarn is produced by twisting at least one twisted or untwisted strand of elastomeric filamentary material such as segmented polyurethane held under high tension e.g. sufficient to cause an extension of four times the original length, with or around at least one twisted or untwisted yarn formed of continuous, man-made e.g. polyamide or polyester, filaments and previously textured e.g. crimped in a stuffer box or by twisting or false-twisting and setting, and held under normal tension. The release of tension allows the elastomeric strand(s) to contract and increase the bulk and covering power of the textured component(s). In a woven or knitted fabric, one of the yarns may be used for each two or three other yarns, optionally formed from the same material as the textured yarn(s).
