Abstract

1349783 Elastic cored yarn TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 18 May 1971 [18 May 1970] 15519/71 Heading D1W An elastic covered yarn comprises an elastic core thread embedded in a sheath of filaments wound so as to extend alternately in S- and Z-directions about the core. The yarn is formed by embedding core thread 5, released under tension from package 3, centrally in twistless multifilamentary thread 8, released under a smaller tension from package 7, in the V-shaped peripheral groove of pulley 18. The yarn is then twisted in false twister 13, being heated by heater 12 in the upstream twisting zone. It is stated that the filaments are S-Z twisted because in the downstream untwisting zone, the untwisting is incomplete due to the filaments adhering to the core or being entangled with, or adhering to, one another. Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) the core is embedded in a V- or U-shaped groove in a stationary member. The core may be a textured multifilament yarn, or may comprise a polyether elastomer or rubber thread.
