Abstract

An untwisted highly elastic elastomeric yarn (e.g. polyurethane based) is fed pref. under tension through a twist tube together with pref. two multifilament bulked (e.g. by false twisting) synthetic yarns (e.g. polyamide 66) such that the gimping yarns are wound loosely around the core yarn, and pref. a tying yarn (e.g. nylon) fed from a package around the twisting tube is wrapped around the gimping yarns at a lappet above the twisting tube to tie them to the core yarn. Pref. the gimping yarns have a denier of 70 and the ratio of the deniers of the tensioned core yarn and the gimping yarns is 0.25-1.25. The gimped yarn is used for knitting and can be easily dyed. The core yarn is well covered, resulting in a better quality knitted fabric.
