Abstract

Sewing thread composed of continuous filament yarns of thermoplastic material, preferably nylon, is formed by applying a twist of 3.455315/D turns to the component yarns and twisting them together with a finishing twist of 3.355315/D X Y turns, D being the denier of each yarn and Y the number of yarns in the thread, and subjecting the thread to an aqueous boil and the action of steam at an elevated temperature. The thread may first be boiled in a relaxed condition and then treated to steam action, or may be subjected to steam pressure at a temperature of about 245 DEG F., while rigidly holding the thread, and later boiled while in a relaxed condition; this may be followed by subjection to steam pressure of about 245 DEG F. The thread so formed will be resistant to shrinkage at temperatures up to about 245 DEG F. and may be used for seaming stockings, corsets, men's clothing or leather goods.
