Abstract

In a continuous process, high-bulk yarn is formed by unwinding an elastic filament at a constant, predetermined speed from a rotating package; feeding it on to a rotatably driven V-pulley the periphery of the base of the groove in which is so contoured, Figs. 2-5 (not shown) as to cause the filaments to travel in an undulating path in its passage thereover and thus be restrained against slippage; advancing the filament under uniform tension through a roller-drafting zone; drafting one or more rovings of inelastic staple fibres; gathering the filament and rovings in a final roller-drafting zone e.g. at the front rollers of a drafting set; finally twisting the rovings about the filament to form a sheath thereon. The elastic filament may be of segmented polyurethane and the ineleastic fibres of cotton, wool, nylon, polyacrylonitrile, or polyethylene terephthalate.
