Abstract

886,525. Stop-motions in doubling machines. T. W. W. (RESEARCH) Ltd. July 14, 1960 [Aug. 6, 1959], No. 26930/59. Class 120(2) In a stop-motion for a doubling &c. machine of the kind comprising a plurality of counterweighted tumblers 201 one for each end of yarn, means for guiding the ends over the tumblers so that they are held inoperative, and a blade 231 pivotally mounted adjacent the paths of the ends, the tumblers being so arranged that when one of them is released by relaxation of the tension in the yarn passing over it, the said tumbler will move automatically to impinge against the blade and cause it to trap and sever the other ends between its edge and a fixed member 21, the parts are mounted on a bracket mounted on a part of the machine, e.g. a traverse-rod 11, between the creel 12 and the delivery-rollers 13, 14; the bracket has a slotted reed 15, spaced guides 17, 18, and a pivot for the tumblers so that the yarn-engaging parts thereof are located between the guides and support-means 22 for the blade. Each tumbler has a counterweight 203 and a yarn-engaging roller 202; when a yarn fails the tumbler pivots about 19 to engage the blade and cause it to pivot into engagement with a fixed member 21. Means may be provided for rendering the mechanism inoperative during piecing-up and to retain the tumblers in operative position when the machine is stopped.
