Abstract

605,161. Roller weighting arrangements for textile spinning and like machines. PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., and WATSON, W. H. Dec. 17, 1945, No. 34079. [Class 120 (ii)] A spring weighting means for the drafting rollers of textile spinning and like machines comprises a series of torsion springs 6, 7 coiled around a spindle 8 recessed to take the bent-over ends of the springs which have their mid-portions 6 formed into loops hooked onto weight-hooks 5 depending from the roller saddles. The cylindrical portions 7 of the springs may be covered by a tube 10 having a longitudinal slit for the passage of the looped mid-portions 6 and gaps breaking the slit to permit angular movements of the portions 6. A plate 20 may be keyed to the spindle 8 and tube 10 to effect rotation of the spindle to adjust the spring pressure. The plate 20 may be locked by a pin and slot arrangement, Fig. 4. Known weight-relieving devices may be used or the load may be taken off the rollers by unhooking the looped portions 6. preferably by means of handles 18 attached to or formed integrally with the springs.
