Abstract

921,545. Tufting-machines. BURY FELT MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. April 5, 1961 [Sept. 2, 1960], No. 30268/60. Class 112. In a tufting-machine the height of the loops or tufts is controlled by passing the yarn warp between a pair of rollers constituting gripping means, and then varying the tension in the yarns, to stretch the latter selectively, between the rollers and the needles. In Fig. 1, yarns 22 pass on their way to the needles 12 successively between feed rollers 11 and through fixed guides 23 and 24. Certain of the yarns 22a are engaged, between the rollers 11 and the guides 23, by a bar 17 carried on an arm 13a<SP>1</SP> of a two-armed lever pivoted at 14, the other arm 13a<SP>11</SP> being adjustably coupled to one end of a link 18e connected at its other end to a rotary crank pin. The yarns 22a are thereby stretched, and the tuft loops formed therefrom contract after release. In Fig. 3b a bar 17<SP>1</SP> is adapted to engage yarns 22a and 22b alternately.
