764,910. Socks. ALLSOP, A. B., DESBOROUGH, L. S. [trading as ALLSOP & CO., A. B.], and WORTH VALLEY (TEXTILES), Ltd. Aug. 4, 1954 [Aug. 6, 1953], No. 21687/53. Class 141. [Also in Group VIII] Knitted half hose has a welt 18 incorporating elastic thread and adapted to fit just below the knee, a circumferentially - continuous non- rib calf part 16, and a ribknitted leg portion 14. As shown the part 14 is ribbed 9/3, the plain part 16 is of substantially constant girth throughout, and the welt 18 is ribbed 1/1 with elastic thread, which may be covered or wrapped, enclosed between oppositely-drawn rib and plain loops of the rib fabric, the whole being knitted on the same number of needles throughout, e.g. on an opposed needle cylinder machine. The general calfbulge shape may be increased by variation of stitch size, or by subsequent boarding. The same yarn may be used throughout, or different yarns (e.g. cotton and wool) for the parts 16, 14, respectively.
