Abstract
832,518. Stockings &c. REYMES-COLE B. T. R. July 12, 1957 [July 13, 1956], No. 21741/56. Class 141 [Also in Group VIII] A stocking or sock is made from a tube 11 of knitted fabric closed at the foot end by a transverse join line and subsequently shaped and set so that the join line 18 extends under and along the foot from the toe to the heel. Alternative positions of join lines 15-17 are shown in Fig. 2, each lying within the reinforced area 12 bounded by the line 22. The reinforced area is produced by the incorporation of a splicing yarn or by replacing the main yarn by a stronger yarn, e.g. in a nylon stocking the main part 11 comprises 15-denier yarn while the reinforced part 12 comprises 60- denier. A thermoplastic stretch yarn also may be incorporated in the area 12. The tube may be formed by rotary knitting or by joining together the lateral edges of a flat blank. Tucks may be formed at the ends of the join line 18 and ornamental tuck stitches may be provided above the line 22. The stocking preferably comprises a micro-mesh fabric knitted from the foot to the welt and including a locking thread. Specification 756,861 is referred to.
