Abstract

756,841. Stockings. COLE, J. M. R. REYMES-. Aug. 7, 1953 [May 7, 1952; June 12, 1953], Nos. 11480/52 and 16234/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 141. [Also in Group VIII] The heel of a stocking is formed by continuous rotary knitting on a circular knitting machine, using a thermoplastic yarn such as nylon, the heel then being stretched on a form and submitted to heat so that it assumes the desired shape in which it sets upon the fabric cooling. Some shaping is achieved in the knitting of the heel by periodically removing the instep needles from operation and by varying the loop length in the heel portion. If desired, only the heel part is knitted of thermoplastic yarn, the foot and leg being knitted of natural or artificial silk or lisle. Specification 756,861 is referred to.
