Abstract

1,161,795. Knitted fabrics. PILOT RESEARCH CORP. 26 Aug., 1966 [2 March, 1966], No. 8785/69. Divided out of 1,161,794. Heading D1K [Also in Division A3] A tubular stretch stocking to fit the normal range of sizes i.e. 8¢ to 11¢ includes a tubular portion A, between a welt 10, 11 and toe portion D, which is knitted, without heel shaping, in alternating courses of mono-filament thermoplastic yarns having torque in opposite directions and is heat-set, Fig. 2, on a boarding form, also without heel shaping, so that the distortion imparted to the stitch loops is substantially uniform at least throughout the part C of portion A which due to this uniform stretchability fits the foot and ankle of sizes 8¢ to 11¢. The remaining part B is heat set to the shape of calf, knee and thigh, as shown. the edges of the thin boarding form forming heat-set creases in the fabric to aid in positioning the heel-less stocking on the leg. The welt and toe portions 10-12 are preferably of heavy, non stretchable multi-filament yarn.
