Abstract

765,882. Knitting. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS, Ltd. June 30, 1955 [July 3, 1954], No. 19555/54. Class 74 (2). A fabric knitted of a crimped yarn is patterned by knitting on a few selected needles only. an uncrimped yarn of similar material together with the crimped yarn. A relief effect is thereby produced due to the inability of the uncrimped yarn to contract with the crimped yarn and which uncrimped yarn therefore assumes a cockled appearance which is forced proud of the surface of the fabric. The yarns are composed of a synthetic linear polymer such as a polyester or a polyamide. The different material used for each yarn and the different physical characteristics of each yarn may in addition to the relief pattern effect result in a differential dye uptake effect. The pattern effect may be achieved by needle selecting Jacquard mechanism or by laying the uncrimped yarn around selected needles in a wrap thread machine and in warp knitting.
