Abstract

591,792. Drawing-apparatus for spinning- frames. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd., and SUFFERN, W. S. Oct. 26, 1944, No. 20879. [Class 120 (ii)] The invention relates to mechanism for spinning yarns from bast and like fibres wherein the drawing means used are of the type' in which a sliver passes between an endless band and a. co-operating roller situated between two pairs of drawing rollers. According to the invention, the co-operating roller is positively driven and the band is frictionally driven from it, the supporting rollers of the band being freely rotatable and mounted for displacement to free the sliver upon sliver breakage. The supporting rollers 6, 11 for the band 12, are mounted on an arm 8 bearing a weight 9. A balanced rod 18 connected at one end to the arm 8 is held at its other end by a link 19 supported by the yarn passing from the lower drafting rollers to the spinning head. Upon yarn breakage the link 19 moves rearwardly and the rod 18 is struck by a reciprocating striker which pushes it upwards to raise the weighted end of the arm 8 and move the band 12 away from its co-operating roller 5. A feed roller 2 is moved out of engagement with its co-operating roller 1 by a projection 26 on a link 22 attached to the arm 8. The link 22 also causes a brake 21 to be applied to the sliver. The brake 21 is of sufficient weight to hold the mechanism in the inoperative position until it is reset by hand. A conductor 15 may be provided to guide the sliver into the nip of the lower drawing rollers. In a modification the lower drawing rollers are reversed in position and the band is brought closer to their nip, the conductor being dispensed with.
