Abstract

832,351. Textile drafting frames; stop motions. FERRANTI Ltd. Aug. 30, 1957 [June 2. 1956]. No 17104/56. Class 120(2) A yarn spinning or twisting frame has at least one lower feed roller adapted to be driven having a sleeve loosely mounted thereon, and at least one upper feed roller carried in a floating frame provided with a brake pad adapted to engage the sleeve, tension means for holding the upper feed roller in pressure contact with the sleeve, and lever means automatically operable upon breakage of yarn to cause the floating frame to apply the brake pad to the sleeve, thereby arresting the further feeding of the yarn. A frame 7, movably mounted on pegs 17, comprises two arms 6, 9 pivotally connected at 8, the arm 6 carrying upper rollers 5 and the arm 9 being formed with brake pads 10 to engage sleeves 3 loosely mounted on driven shafts 1 when the frame 7 is moved. The sleeves 3 are preferably grooved on the inside to connect with grooves on the shafts 1 and be driven thereby when weighting pressure is applied by means of springs 12 and lever connections to a finger key 32. A lever 27 is held by the running thread against the action of a weight. which when the thread falls slack or breaks causes the lever 27 to rise and through toggle mechanism 25, 24, 23, 18, 19, 21. force the frame 7 to slide over the pages 17, the pads 10 relieving the pressure on the sleeves 3 and halting their rotation while the shafts 1 still rotate, so that feed of the yarn is stopped. The position of the frame is readjusted by means of a finger key 22.
