Abstract

611,160. Twisting yarn. BROCKLEHURST-WHISTON AMALGAMATED, Ltd., ASPINALL, R. H. S., and HARDING, F. April 23, 1946, No. 12296. [Class 120(ii)] Yarn-twisting apparatus of the type imparting a double- or treble-twist to the yarn passing from a stationary cradle 17 through a "wheel eye" 24 and then back outside the supply package to the take-up spindle 33 and in which a common driving belt 29 drives a group of horizontal or inclined spindles held in driven contact therewith, is characterized in that for each spindle there is an independently movable pressure roller 30 adapted to press the belt 29 into driving engagement with the spindle 25 but movable either automatically or at will to release such pressure whereby any spindle may be stopped or started independently of the other spindles. In the preferred embodiment, the roller 30 is carried by a spring-urged rod 28 connected to a pedal 32 and normally locked in pressing condition by a rod 37 and catch 36. Where the yarn breaks or comes to an end, a faller eye 38 allows a weighted bellcrank 39 to move the lever 40 within range of a rocking lever 41 to withdraw the rod 37 and allow the spring 31 to move the roller 30 from the belt. The same motion lowers a protecting front wall 42 and stops the spindle 33, through the linkage 34, 35, 43.
