Abstract

894,845. Twist-tubes &c. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., ERNEST. Dec. 21, 1960 [Jan. 1, 1960], No. 23/60. Class 120(2) In a device for false-twisting a running yarn, part of the outer surface of a tubular spindle is engaged by a driving belt and another part thereof is closely surrounded by, and is axially positioned by a guide relatively to, a complementary non-rotating chamber. Compressed air supplied to the chamber constitutes a bearing medium for the rotating spindle. As shown, yarn 3 runs through a cylinder 1 or spindle driven by a belt 9 and constrained by collars or fins 13, 14, within a shell 5 mounted on a swinging arm 10 urged by a spring 11 towards the belt 9. Compressed air enters a chamber 6 through a connection at 12. In operation, collars 13, 14 float clear of the shell 5 on a cushion of escaping air. Several devices may be operated by a single air supply and driving belt.
