Abstract

923,756. Drive for twist tubes. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. Aug. 9, 1961 [Aug. 17, 1960,] No. 28468/60. Class 120 (2). [Also in Group XXIV] A false twist tube arrangement comprises a block 18 of hard material (preferably of tungsten carbide) urging the twist tube 11 into a cusp formed by driven cylindrical members 12, 13 and at least one other cylindrical member 14, 15 rotating about a parallel shaft 17, the tube being driven by contact with at least one of said members. The block 18 locates the tube longitudinally by engaging between raised portions 23, 24 in the tube, while the block is located by arms 25 pivoted to the machine frame at 26. The block which is downwardly urged by spring 20 may have a wick or hole through which lubricant may pass to the bearing area. The discs 12, 13, 14, 15 are covered by a wear-resisting material which is also resilient to lessen noise. In the Provisional Specification a form is described in which the block and its support together with the cylindrical members are mounted so that a pulley on the driven shaft may be moved into or out of engagement with a driving belt.
