Abstract

864,716. Yarn tensioning devices. MICHELE RATTI S.p.A. May 27, 1959 [May 29, 1958], No. 18027/59. Class 120(2). A yarn F supplied from a rotatable reel S is tensioned by a first device mounted on the reel S to hold the yarn F clear of the upper flange 15 of the reel during normal operation and in contact with it when the reel S is stationary or decelerating, and by a second device which is mounted above the first and varies the inclination of the yarn to compensate tension variations during unwinding. The first device comprises a flyer 4 carrying a heavy washer 6 and rotatably mounted on a pin 2 with base 1. When unwinding stops the flyer 4, which rotates freely during operation, drops into contact with the base 1 to bring the yarn F into contact with the flange 15. It is stated that this imparts sufficient tension to the yarn to prevent looping. The second device comprises a block 10 which is pivoted at 11 and carries arms 8, 9 formed as thread guides and biased by a weight 13 adjustably mounted on the end 14 of the arm 9.
