Abstract

528,386. Thread-tensioning arrangements. COURTAULDS, Ltd., DIAMOND, C., and WILSON, L. G. April 26, 1939, No. 12525. [Class 120 (ii)] A tension device for use in winding threads comprises two carriers each carrying a number of guides, one of the carriers 8 being fixed and the other 13 being pivoted at its lower end 14 and inclined to the vertical on the side of the pivot reserve from the fixed carrier so that when the thread is passed in a zigzag path around and between the guides 9... 12 and 15, 16, 17, movement of the pivoted carrier towards or away from the vertical caused by an increase or decrease respectively in the thread tension, correspondingly reduces or increases the friction exerted by the guides on the thread to counteract the increase or decrease in tension. As shown a movable weight 18 is attached to the pivoted carrier 13 so that its initial position may be varied, e.g. so that the angle it makes with the horizontal is approximately the same as the angle between the zigzag portions of the thread 1.
