855,923. Preventing singles in drafting, doubling &c. machines. ACKROYD, S. May 13, 1959 [May 13,1958], No. 15252/58. Class 120(2) A device to prevent singles by stopping delivery in drafting, doubling &c. machines comprises stationary and movable members, 1, 8 the latter being provided with teeth &c. 9 and normally occupying an inoperative position: on breakage of a yarn &c. the member 8 is engaged by the broken end and moved thereby into engagement with the other yarn for the teeth &c. to grip it and cause it to be severed. The stationary member 1 has lugs 2 carrying a pin 7 on which the member 8 is rotatably mounted : it is secured to a thread-guide 4 by a spring-member passing through a slot 6 in the guide and a slot 3 in the member 1. Normally, the yarns &c. pass through the slot 6 over the top of the member 1, the member 8 lying against the top of the spring-member. When a yarn &c. breaks, it falls to lie over the member 8 and engage its bush 9: as the yarn continues to move it pulls the member up to a position where the teeth engage the other yarn &c. which is then severed by the working tension. In another form the bracket 1 is attached to the guide 4 by a bolt passing through a hole while the member 8 is formed as a right-angled member, the end which carries the teeth being notched, and the other end acting as a stop.
