673,695. Spindle driving and stopping arrangements. SCRAGG, Ltd., S. & E., and SCRAGG, F. Sept. 15, 1950 [Aug. 23, 1949], No. 21797/49. Class 120(ii) In a winding and twisting machine spindle mounting of the kind having a vertical spindle A with a driving pulley E secured thereto and rotatably mounted on the end of an arm B pivoted to' a bracket C on the machine frame. the driving pulley E being held in contact with a driving belt F by a spring D associated with the arm B, a brake shoe H, J is provided on the end of an arm K on the bracket C and in the path of the driving pulley E so as to engage the same when it is withdrawn by a handle G from the driving belt F and the arm K carries a pivoted catch &c. L which engages a recess M in an extension N of the arm B when the pulley E engages the brake shoe H, J to hold the arm B in an inoperative position with the pulley E clear of the brake shoe H, J when the arm B is subsequently released by the operator so as to assist in threading up. The catch L is provided with an extrusion O which may be engaged by the arm B positively to move the catch L into its operative position. The catch L may be released by pressure on a thumbpiece P.
