Abstract

832,265. Stop motion for textile doubling machines. BRIERLEY, J. B. May 7, 1958 [May 7, 1957], No. 14478/57. Class 120(2) A stop-motion for a machine for doubling slivers, slubbings, yarns, or thread in which a detector biased to engage the united thread &c. interrupts the threadforwarding action of the machine if the united thread &c. breaks or moves out of contact with the detector, has two or more guides one for each constituent thread &c. disposed one or more on each side of the normal path of the united thread &c. in the region where it is engaged by the detector, and a movable guide receiving all the constituent threads &c. on their passage to the detector member, the arrangement being such that if only one thread &c. breaks, the remaining threads &c. will pull the movable guide to one side of its normal position, taking with it the united thread and moving it out of engagement with the detector. As applied to a yarn doubler, the detector 32, Fig. 1, is pivoted to a bracket 30 fitting over the stub shafts of two forwarding rollers 16, 17 and rests with its weight on the united thread. If the thread breaks &c., the detector which may be spring- or weight-loaded, swings downwardly so that a nylon tongue 34 secured to the bracket projects between the rollers and separates them to interrupt ther forwarding-action. Before reaching the rollers, the constituent threads, two or more in number, pass from single-ended cores over pot guides 19, 20 and fixed guides 25, 26 to an eye 15 formed in a wire 22 loosely held at 23. If one thread breaks, the eye 15 swings to one side taking the remaining thread or threads out of the normal path in which the detector lies, so that the latter operates the stop-motion. The wire 22 may be secured to the bar on which the pot-guides are mounted in which case the guides 25, 26 are dispensed with. To render the stop motion inoperative, e.g. when the machine is being stopped, pegs such as 41 on a bar 40 which is moved laterally the stop the machine, co-operate with a cam-surface on the back of the bracket to force the latter down to raise the detector 32 and the tongue 34. To brake the spindle on which the thread &c. is wound when the detector is operated movement of the latter can be used to cause a member which normally restrains a spring-urged brake from engaging the spindle. Alternatively, the arrangement of Fig. 5 is used. A plate 50 spring-urged to move around a spindle 55 is restrained by engagement with a plate 56, carrying a rod 58 which extends near the detector, Fig. 1. When the detector falls, the rod 58 is moved to raise the plate 56 and allow the plate 50 to rotate whereby a pulley 53 moves the driving tape 54 out of engagement with the spindle and a brake shoe 62 engages the spindle.
