Abstract
677,544. Textile twisting machine "knockoff" mechanism. BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK AKT.-GES. Sept. 8, 1949 [Sept. 8, 1948], No. 23326/49. Class 120(ii) A textile twisting machine of the kind comprising a support, mounted rockably in the vertical plane, for a spindle urged by weight or spring action against a driving means, a reciprocating thread guide for laying the thread on to a winding bobbin, and a disconnection device controlled by a knocking-off or stop motion including a thread feeler, for automatically disconnecting the drive to the spindle, and also if desired, the drive to the winding bobbin in the event of thread breakage, wherein, means are provided for deriving the disconnecting movement from the reciprocating movement of the thread guide. In the arrangement shown, 1 is a spindle support pivoted at 2 and carrying, on a lower arm 3, a double twist spindle 4. An upper arm 5 carries a thread guide eye 6 and a guide roller 7. The support 1 is rockable between two stops 9 and in one end position the wharve of the spindle 4 is in contact with driving belt 10 and in the other end position the wharve is removed from the driving belt. Disposed above the arm 5 is a winding bobbin 8 driven by a hollow driving roller 14 and a friction roller 15. Beneath the roller 14 is a trough shaped support 16 which on rocking of the spindle support in the disengagement direction lifts the driving roller 14 from the friction roller 15. There is also located above the arm 5 a reciprocating thread guide 17, 18 having a lever 19 pivoted thereto, held in an almost horizontal position by a spring 20 and having at its free end a cam member 21 having two inclined faces. Cam member 21 cooperates with a second cam member 22 disposed at the free end of a lever 23 pivoted on the arm 5. The lever 23 may be rocked between two end positions in one of which cam 22 is in the path of the reciprocating cam member 21. The lever 23 is loaded by a small weight 24 which acts as a toggle mechanism. On the axle 25 of the lever 23 is pivoted a feeler constituted by a light lever 26 applied against the thread by a counterweight 28. When the thread breaks, feeler 26 rocks upwards. the lug 29 strikes the arm 30 of lever 23 and tilts the latter to bring the cam 22 into the path of the reciprocating cam 21. The cams engage, causing the spindle support 1, 3, 5, to be rocked into the disengagement position thus disconnecting the drive to the spindle 4 and the winding bobbin 8. Movement of the spindle support 1 is under the action of a toggle mechanism comprising a spring 11. An alternative arrangement shows a weight operated toggle mechanism for the spindle support.
