Abstract

1,142,163. Winding yarns. BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 3 May, 1966 [3 May, 1965], No. 19562/66. Heading D1J. A continuous yarn 8 of man-made fibres is wound in random form onto a bobbin 3 which is mounted for free rotation on a holder 2 on a swinging arm 1 and is driven by a roller 7 and the arrangement is such that oscillations affecting both the bobbin 3 and the arm 1 in the event of a non-circular crosssection package formation are damped in one direction, i.e. over that part of their movement which leads away from the roller 7 and is associated with the lifting of the package off the roller 7, whilst that part of the oscillating movement leading back to the roller 7 is arrested in the other direction before the bobbin 3 comes into contact with the roller 7, thus interrupting the positive friction drive. The arm 1 swings about a pivot 4 and is acted on by a weight 6, adjustably mounted on an arm 5, to urge the bobbin 3 into contact with the roller 7. The yarn 8 is traversely guided by a slotted or fluted roller 9. During winding, the arm 1 moves to the position 1' and to change the bobbin 3 the arm is swung to the position I" and a chuck mechanism 10 released. A bow-shaped angle lever 12, 15 is mounted on a pivot 11 on the arm 1. One arm 12 has a brake block 13 attached thereto urged into friction contact with a fixed curved brake path 14 by a compression spring 17 acting on the arm 15. The thrust exerted by the spring 17 is adjustable by a screw cap 19. The block 13 may be made of a synthetic resin laminated with woven fabric and the path 14 of cast iron. The free end of the arm 15 rests on a cam 20. fixed to the pivot 4. The cam 20 may be designed so that the pressure of the block 13 on the path 14 decreases as the diameter of the yarn package increases.
