Abstract

1,253,883. Double-twist spindle; yarn brake. PALITEX PROJECT CO. G.m.b.H. 3 Feb., 1969 [16 Feb., 1968], No. 5744/69. Heading D1D. In a double-twist spindle having an internal pocket to accommodate a brake acting on the thread running downwardly through the spindle, a face 13 of the pocket forms fixed brake surface, while a movable member 28 of ferromagnetic material is urged toward face 13 by a multi-pole magnet 27 adjacent face 13 and movable relative thereto. The face 13 is inclined relative to the horizontal and the movable member 28 is pivotable, e.g. about a pivot 36 under the influence of the thread in the direction of the thread run. As shown magnet 27 is mounted on a member 18 which is threaded and engaged by a thumb piece 22; thus by rotating piece 22 the magnet 27 is vertically moved and the degree of braking adjusted. Numbered or coloured notches can be provided on thumb-piece 22 to indicate the degree of braking. Movable member 28 is mounted on a lever 34 pivoted at 36 on the lower end of guide tube 6. Tube 6 is downwardly displaceable against a spring 41 thus causing an extension 37 of lever 34 to engage in an aperture 38 and thus pivot member 28 away from surface 13 to facilitate threading- up of the spindle. In an alternative form, Fig. 1, not shown, the magnet (15) surrounds guide tube (6) and the movable brake member (5) is normally supported only by the magnet (15). When the magnet is raised, it allows the brake member (5) to move away from the fixed brake surface and facilitate threading up. A spur 16 is provided on the wall of the pocket (12) to support the member (5) in its moved away position.
