Abstract
448,940. Winding yarns &c. GEORGETOWN SILK CO., Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Dec. 17, 1934, No. 36171. Convention date, July 12. [Class 120 (ii)] In a yarn or like winding-machine in which the thread-guide carrier and winding spindle are relatively reciprocated and the thread-guide is pivotally mounted on its carrier so as to rock in the general direction of the traverse motion to build a package with one or both ends tapered and in which a follower carried by the thread guide engages an angularly-adjustable track for causing such rocking of the threadguide when relative reciprocation takes place between the track and follower due to the operation of the traversing means, the angular setting of the track in accordance with the growth of the package is caused by the movement of'the threadguide away from the winding spindle. As shown, the track 65 is carried by a pivot 67 in one end of a bow-shaped bracket 35 fixed at the other end to the back 34 of the threadguide carrier 32 and carrying a bar 45 along which an arm 42, extending from the traverse bar 30, slides. The thread-guide 25 slides against the face 38 of the carrier 32 and is hinged by a pin 53 to an arm 50 swivelled to the arm 42 by a pin 52 and carrying a roller 60 engaging the track 65. The inner end of the track carries a spherically-headed stud 70 engaging the groove 71 of a cam 72 adjustablv fixed to an arm 73 fixed to the machine frame 2 and the setting of the cam 72 in relation to a graduated plate 84 forming part of the arm 73 determines the shortening of the layers of yarn as the package is wound ; by canting the track 65 at the start of the winding the length of the wound package may be varied. In a modification, the track is connected by a link with one arm of a bell-crank lever pivoted to the swinging traverse frame 28 and having its other arm adjustably connected with a link pivoted to the machine frame. Packages with a tapered inner end and flat base are wound by using a track, pivoted at its outer end to a bar carried by bowed arms from the back of the thread-guide carrier so that at the outer end of each traverse of the threadguide the roller 60 arrives opposite the pivot of the track and the guide assumes a vertical position.
