Abstract
706,417. Winding yarn. SCRAGG & SONS, Ltd., E., and FINDLOW, E. Jan. 23, .1952 [Feb. 23, 1951], No. 4394/51. Class 120(2) Traverse mechanism of the kind wherein the yarn is fed to a package 9 by a guide moving to and fro across the package and resting thereon, the traverse being automatically increased, as the package grows, to form tapered ends, comprises a yarn guide 13 carried by an arm 12 universally pivoted at 11, 15 to a fitting 10 on a traverse rod 5, there being mounted parallel to the rod 5 another rod 6 reciprocated in time with the rod 5 but through a greater distance, the rod 6 carrying a slotted clip 20 with which engages a stud 18 on a pivoted T-shaped member 17 formed with ears 21 which through wires 22 support a sleeve 23, slidably and rotatably engaging the arm 12, so that at each end of the traverse, the arm 12 is swung upwardly and inwardly through progressively increasing distances as the package grows, the guide 13 remaining tangential to the package. In a modification, the pivoted member 17 may be oscillated by rack and pinion mechanism mounted on the rod 6.
