Abstract

879,880. Winding machine stop mechanisms. MACKIE & SONS Ltd., JAMES. March 24, 1959 [Dec. 24, 1957], No. 10253/59. Divided out of 872,608. Class 120(2) In a yarn winding machine of the surface driven type and having an automatic stopmotion which comes into operation to interrupt the drive of the package being wound when the yarn breaks or runs out, means are provided to cause breakage of the yarn as a consequence of the roll reaching a predetermined diameter and thus cause the stop motion to operate. In the machine shown 10 is a driving shaft having fixed to it rollers 12 on which rest roll packages 14 being formed. The machine is fitted with a stop motion (not shown) which operates when the yarn being wound breaks or runs out. Pivotally mounted on the frame of the machine at 28 there is a feeler 30 which lightly touches the surface of the roll. Also pivoted at 28 there is an arm 32 having a notch 34 at its outer end which notch engages over a pin 36 on bracket 37 fixed to plate 38 pivoted to the machine frame at 40. The parts 30 and 32 are connected by a pin and slot connection 42. Normally the parts are as shown in full lines with the feeler 30 out of contact with the roll and the plate 38 held by pin 36 and notch 34. When the roll reaches its full size it moves the feeler 30 such that notch 34 disengages pin 36 and the plate 38 falls on to the head of the bobbin 16, as shown in broken lines, and causes breakage of the balooning yarn. This breakage then operates the stop motion to stop the machine. In a second embodiment the plate 38 carries a thread guide at its end which guide takes the place of guide 20 shown and in a further embodiment yarn nipping means are provided for breaking the yarn.
