Abstract

823,041. Winding yams; stop mechanism. MACKIE & SONS Ltd., J. March 15, 1956 [March 29, 1955], No. 9143/55. Class 120(2) A stop motion for a cop or roll winder comprises a stopping mechanism which is brought into action on breakage or running out of the yarn by a detector lever pivotally mounted on the machine frame between its end and carrying at one of its ends yarn tensioning means, the detector lever being normally held in a position not actuating the stopping mechanism, by reason of the frictional pull of the yarn on the tensioning means. In the embodiment shown a winding spindle 10 is driven by a rope 18 through a pulley 20 fast on the spindle and lying alongside a loose pulley 22. A shift lever 24 for shifting the rope from one pulley to the other is pivotally mounted at 26 and has a downward extension 28 which forms a detector lever and carries a yarn tensioner 30. The yarn 12 passes over a guide 34 downwards through the tensioner 30 to a traverse arm 14. The shift lever carries a brake member 36 for bringing the spindle to rest. When the spindle is rotating and yarn is being wound on the cop the friction between the yarn and the tensioner causes the lower end of the detector to be pulled towards the spindle and the shift lever and the brake are held inoperative. If the yarn breaks the detector unit swings about the pivot 26 so as to shift the rope on to the loose pulley and stop the spindle. To restart winding after piecing up the detector lever is pushed towards the spindle so that the brake is removed from the spindle and the driving rope shifted on to the fast pulley. In the case of a roll winder the stop motion raises the head carrying the roll of yarn out of engagement with its driving roller.
